History of Sandy, Utah

During the 1860s and 1870s several settlers decided to make the Sandy region their new home. In 1873 Brigham Young labeled the city's soil as "thirsty soil." This attracted several farmers and soon the area became a farming community. In 1877, the farming community of Sandy changed into a thriving mining town. A railroad was constructed in 1873 that connected Sandy to Salt Lake City. The railroad played a major role in the transportation of ore and other products. Although the mines failed in the 1890s, the Sandy community did not disappear. The City of Sandy was incorporated in 1893. The city became a major hub for business and society.
